Our Most Successful Fundraiser Yet!
It was an exciting night of fun, food and music at our second annual Food Truck World Tour—in spite of rain and a tornado watch. Tents covered the area around the food trucks outside, with plenty of room to check the menus and stay dry. Inside, the room was cozy and active during the judges’ critiques of the desserts prepared by culinary students from Iowa Western Community College and Metropolitan Community College.
Polina and Bob Schlott served as honorary event hosts who were actively involved with the event planning. They co-chaired the Host Committee with Betiana and Todd Simon. Board members, staff, friends and supporters were warm and welcoming, and the focus on food and music provided a high-energy experience for our guests.
We exceeded all our fundraising goals due to the diligence of our Host Committee members: Arike & Dele Davies, Ryan Ellis, Maria Fernandez, Valeria & Washington Garcia, Roberta Wilhelm & Vic Gutman, Frank L. Hayes, Esther Mejia & Jeneen Sagon, Athena Ramos & Jose Sanchez, Erin Swanson Russell & Joel Russell and Annette and Paul Smith.
Food, Fun and Music. . .
From the generous menus of the food trucks to desserts created by the culinary students, the food was outstanding. A variety of food from local Omaha food trucks was available, including Maria Bonita, Sweet Lime, Attitude on Food and Smokin Barrel with Omaha Steaks sandwiches. Six students of Iowa Western Community College and Metropolitan Community College presented seven dessert recipes, critiqued by Sarah Baker Hansen, food reporter for the Omaha World-Herald; Melissa Stevens of The Cordial Cherry; Anne Thorn Weaver, dessert enthusiast; Mary Umberger, chair of the JFON-NE Fund Development & Communications Committee, and Emiliano Lerda, JFON-NE executive director.
Guests gathered for the program and were entertained first by the UNO Jazz Combo, then by master D.J. Brent Crampton of House of Loom at the After Party, with his signature international dance beat.
Thanks to all who made this event possible with your attendance, your creativity, and your generous contributions!
